Building Blackboard Together 2027 (BbT27) marks three decades of Blackboard and a moment in learning that’s every bit as consequential as the one that started our first journey together.
In 1997, Blackboard was built for a shift that seemed enormous at the time: learning was moving onto the internet. Three decades later, we’re all standing at the edge of a shift that’s even bigger: the move to AI-native learning. As Blackboard co-founder Matthew Pittinsky has argued, this won’t be AI bolted onto the tools we already have. It’s the moment the platform itself changes shape, from managing courses to managing learning.
BbT27 is where we mark both. Thirty years since Blackboard began to look at how technology can shape learning, and the year our community — across higher education, business, and government — meets the next era head-on. Whether you’re leading a classroom or training program, it’s the same shift: from delivering content to delivering outcomes, for every learner.
